Phil Zwickler, New York, 1992
I photographed Phil in my studio on East 14th Street. He was an intense man and a noted filmmaker. Among the films he is noted for are: “Positive” and “Silence Equals Death”, in which he collaborated with German filmmaker Rosa van Praunheim. The last film he made was “Needle Nightmare” in which he dealt with his fear of the treatment and clinical issues dealing with AIDS.
A Foundation was set up in his name, The Phil Zwickler Charitable and Memorial Trust, website: http://www.pzfoundation.org/philzwickler/
Phil died at home on May 7, 1991. He was 36 years old.
What a great set of photos! I had the pleasure of working with Phil many times when we were both at GCN.
