The AIDS Activist Project

In 1992, the 8th International AIDS Conference was moved in protest from Boston to Amsterdam, due to the restrictive U.S. policy of banning people with HIV from entering the U.S.

This was my first trip outside of the United States. Because I had so much equipment, I took a taxi. I will always remember after explaining to the driver why I was there, he stopped the car, turned around to face me and said “No matter, you are always welcome in Amsterdam”.
